We use a wide range of techniques
Hand-selecting customized treatment plans based on each patient’s individual needs, symptoms, and preferences.
Your chiropractic techniques will be selected based on what is causing your back pain or neck pain. For instance, if you’re suffering from a disc injury, we’ll use specific techniques that have been proven effective for that particular condition. All techniques are tailored to the comfort and condition of the patient.
Below are just a few of the common techniques we utilize for backache, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, migraines and other conditions:
Hands on technique Hands on techniqueThere are several different Hands on Chiropractic Techniques. At Active Back Care we use mainly Diversified and Gonstead. These techniques are used to correct biomechanical faults in the spinal joints. These involve small controlled thrusts delivered specifically to a spinal joint to stimulate a fast stretch reflex in the ligaments and muscles of the spine to activate pain relief, increase circulation, decrease inflammation, alleviate pressure, encourage tissue healing and restore joint function. At Active Back Care, our practitioners achieve significant positive results by incorporating these techniques into our everyday practice. With careful and experienced assessment and delivery these techniques are safe and effective for patients suffering neck and back pain, headaches, stiffness, postural strain or other injuries that impair mobility.
Advanced Bio-structural Correction (ABC) Advanced Bio-structural Correction (ABC)Is a full body adjusting procedure that focusses on correcting the biomechanical faults of the skeletal framework. It involves manual spinal adjustments and specific stretches. This often results in noticeable improvement in posture, alleviating the stress and tension of postural strain often resulting in other gains such as spinal pain relief, improved mobility and ease of breathing.
Webster WebsterOften used to relieve discomfort in pregnant women, the Webster technique helps to restore proper functioning of the pelvis, reduce spinal strain, lessen strain on ligaments and joints, alleviate lower back pain, and improve posture and balance. Webster is also used for postnatal care.
Activator ActivatorThe Activator is a small hand-held instrument that delivers a gentle spring loaded impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal joint. The Activator can be set to deliver a metered force that is tailored to the comfort of each patient. It is an alternative to the traditional Hands-On Techniques mentioned above whose efficacy is supported by 23 clinical trials.
Drop PieceTechnique Drop Piece Technique
In this technique we use a specialised adjusting table that features different sections that can be raised by about 2 to 5 centimetres. The chiropractor will determine which part or section of the drop table will be used, corresponding to the specific area of the spine that requires an adjustment. A particular section of the table is slightly raised, then the tension is adjusted based on the body weight of the patient. The Chiropractor will then apply a small quick thrust to the spinal segment to be adjusted, allowing the table section to drop back into place creating a comfortable and therapeutic stretch to the ligaments and muscles of the spinal joint. Using this specialised table, the chiropractor is able to conveniently manipulate most of the joints of the body.
Additional AdditionalIn addition to our various manual techniques, our Chiropractors are also proficient in the use of the following services to aid in your pain relief and recovery
- Dry needling
- Cold laser
- Shockwave
- ENAR
- Exercise prescription

Frequently Asked Questions.
What should I expect? If you’ve never visited a chiropractor, you may be wondering what to expect from your first session. Like any other doctor’s appointment, the first step will be for you to provide details of your medical history. You’ll be asked to describe any pain, trauma, symptoms, or health conditions you’ve experienced. To help guide the diagnosis and treatment, the chiropractor may ask you about certain lifestyle factors such as diet, activity level, occupation, and family medical history.
Next, Chiropractors often perform physical, neurological, and/or orthopedic tests to help replicate symptoms and pinpoint the causes. He or she may also examine your spine to check for any potential malfunction. To support or confirm the physical examinations, you may be referred for X-rays of the affected area. In a few select cases, an MRI or CT scan may be necessary.
Based on the discussions, exams, and tests, the chiropractor will ultimately deliver a diagnosis and recommend a customized treatment plan to address your needs. Treatments may include a combination of spinal adjustments, stretches, exercises, muscle stimulation, and hot/cold applications. Follow-up strategies may include diet and lifestyle changes, vitamins or supplements, home exercises, and/or therapeutic supports.
At Active Back Care, our goal is to make your first chiropractic appointment a safe, comfortable, and nurturing experience. Your chiropractor will provide patient, thorough care so you will never feel rushed. Our chiropractic staff provides courteous, competent service from the moment you step into our office.
What is chiropractic care?Chiropractic care is a widely accepted form of health care that focuses on the health and function of the spine and nervous system. It is based on the biomechanical study of the spine and pelvis. It aims to correct and maintain spinal joint and pelvic alignment to enhance function and help prevent stress and degeneration of spinal joints, spinal discs, muscles and
ligaments. This helps reduce back pain, neck pain and headaches.
Chiropractic also incorporates a detailed understanding of the nervous system and how it can be affected by problems in the spine. With this knowledge, Chiropractic can help to improve your balance, posture and musculoskeletal pain. It can also have a positive effect on your overall health and well being.
How does chiropractic treatment work? The overall goal of chiropractic care is to optimize the position and movement of the spine to ensure balanced weight bearing and posture. This helps reduce stress and wear and tear on spinal tissue such as joints, discs, muscles and ligaments. This also reduces irritation to the nervous system. As a result, the body will be able to perform at its best and be better able to fight off damage, sickness and disease. To achieve this, chiropractors use careful spinal adjusting techniques to correct spinal joint dysfunction.
Are all chiropractic treatments the same? No. After evaluating your physical condition, your Chiropractor will apply a customized treatment tailored to your needs. Each session will build on the benefit of previous sessions to help you progress effectively. No two courses of care are alike.
Are chiropractic techniques safe?Yes. Chiropractic care has a long record of safe and successful outcomes. It is a widely accepted health care practice that has been proven by medical and scientific research to be safe and effective. It is utilized by thousands of people around the world including elite athletes to optimize their performance. As a natural health care, chiropractic care does not use drugs or invasive surgeries.
Can pregnant women receive chiropractic care?Absolutely. Our chiropractors treat many pregnant women. In fact, chiropractic techniques have been shown to help ensure an easier labor and delivery. All treatments are customized to meet the needs and physical condition of the patient.
Are chiropractors actual doctors?Chiropractors are not medical doctors. However, Chiropractors are legally entitled to use the term“Dr” (Chiropractor). All of our Chiropractors have completed a 5 year university degree and taken comprehensive board examinations. They are licensed and certified to practice in Australia and regularly pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest advances in technology and treatment.
